William J. Cunningham (born 1929) is a fashion photographer for The New York Times, known for his candid street photography.
I recommend “Bill Cunningham New York” @BCNYthemovie to all fashion lovers. It’s a touching take on an icon.

“As a Long Island teenager, Noah Langer, 24, was told the numbers represented the acres of rain forest destroyed annually. Sarah Venezia, who can see the building each morning on her way to work, always assumed they stood for daily carbon emissions. And for years, friends tried to convince Bianca Rutigliano, who tends bar near Union Square, that the clock was counting down the seconds remaining until the end of the world.” (In Union Square, 15 Numbers Add Up, Once Again, to Time)
Tri-State Biodiesel, a Bronx-based company, turns grease collected in city restaurants into biodiesel fuel that powers trucks and heats buildings. The firm provides a sustainable model for the growing number of enterprises that enter this still small market. The United States produced 60 billion gallons of diesel fuel last year but only half a billion gallons of biodiesel. The company has over 40 employees, some of whom are former homeless people graduated from the Doe Fund program. Tri-State Biodiesel vacuums used cooking oil from 3,500 venues including Grand Central Terminal, Yankee Stadium and restaurants like Marimoto in Chelsea.
Many stations of the New York City subway system have fallen into disuse. Some are fully abandoned - rotting and seen only from passing trains - others are in use as storage facilities. Some have extra platforms that were closed long ago. And some are architectural marvels that give a glimpse into the city’s past.
I love when the truth is made hilarious.

People, cars, and buildings look like tiny toys in Olivo Barbieri’s uncanny photographs. Shooting with a large format camera from a helicopter, he captures real-life urban environments, but makes them resemble tabletop constructions by tilting and shifting the lens to keep some parts clear and other parts out of focus.
